The plan to turn the former Texas Gas building into a career and technical center could be changing, with other options on the table.
Owensboro Public Schools is looking into other options for a regional career and technical education center.
Owensboro Public Schools recently bought the old building with the center in mind, but the district says it wasn't able to get another school district on board to lease part of the building.
Superintendent Nick Brake says Owensboro Public Schools needed that commitment from another district to move ahead with the project.
The district is going back to the drawing board and looking at other options. One possibility is constructing a new building located between Owensboro High School and the district's central offices.
"I'm confident moving forward that we'll have a good plan not only for career and tech education with students in our school system, but also to productively utilize that property for all in this community," Brake says.
He says the old Texas Gas property is still valuable to the school district and the issue will be discussed more at a public meeting on Tuesday.
