Good economic news was released on Wednesday for the Dubois County area. Officials say over 100 jobs are coming to Ferdinand by this summer.
The expansion of the MasterBrand Cabinets in Ferdinand is a $1 million project that will bring 135 new wood-working jobs to the area.
Ferdinand Town Council President Ken Sicard says MasterBrand wants the new positions filled by June 1. Sicard says MasterBrand will hire people to work on assembly lines, run machinery, and possibly operate computerized CNC machinery.
Sicard says the expansion was contingent on a town-approved tax abatement.
"They could have gone out of state. We as a town, wanted to make sure that we kept them in Dubois County and in our town, if at all possible," he said.
"It sounds wonderful because when you have that many jobs created, it usually has a ripple effect, where maybe two or three more jobs will be created to help serve and support that new group of income generators. So, it could be a really nice boost for the economy around here," said Brian McIntosh, who works in software.
If you're interested in any of these new jobs at MasterBrand, you can apply in person at the Ferdinand location or anytime on the MasterBrand website.
