Water customers asked to conserve through weekend as conditions improve

Posted: Updated:

Evansville water customers are still being asked to conserve through the weekend even though conditions are improving.

The water department has reported a record number of water main breaks since Monday. We're told 60 breaks have been reported and some of those lines are still being repaired.

Taking shorter showers and doing fewer loads of laundry are a couple of things that can help residents conserve.

Crews are working around the clock to return the reservoir to normal, which includes filtering the icy water from the Ohio River.

The city tweeted their thanks to Evansville residents on Saturday morning for their efforts to conserve water while the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility deals with the situation.

Residents are still being asked to report any breaks to the water utility's dispatch at (812) 421-2130.
