Crews adding final touches to Owensboro's Convention Center

Crews in Owensboro are getting the new Convention Center dolled up and looking nice for its debut at the end of the month.

Officials say the project is starting to move from a construction phase to an operations phase.

"There's a lot of activity. There are a lot of different trades on the site right now and are doing work, finishing things up," says Dean Dennis, the General Manager of the Owensboro Convention Center for Global Spectrum.

Crews have been putting the final pieces in place by installing carpet in the ballrooms and stairwells, hanging signs that will direct visitors to different areas in the building, and making sure the escalators, elevators, and all systems are working properly.

"People are going to be very excited to see this building, and as you get kind of a glimpse of it, you get a glimpse of how great this facility is going to be for this region and for this community," Dennis says.

As crews get the Convention Center looking nice for its unveiling, some downtown businesses say they are excited to welcome to the new kid down the street to the neighborhood.

"I'm eagerly anticipating the opening of the Convention Center. It's been a long project and it's been something that our neighbors out of town have been eagerly awaiting," says Ben Skiadas with Famous Bistro Manager.

Convention Center officials say they will be bringing in and setting up furniture in a week and a half.
