Seven EVSC students and their school bus driver escaped injury this morning after the driver of a pickup truck lost control on an icy road and slammed into the rear of their bus.
Indiana State Police says around 6:45 Wednesday morning, a school bus loaded with seven students had stopped on Upper Mt. Vernon Road near Dieffenbach Road to pick up another student.
ISP says a pickup truck driven 20-year-old by Jesse Kemper, Jr, of Evansville, was eastbound on Upper Mt. Vernon Road when his vehicle slid on ice striking the rear of the stopped school bus.
No injuries were reported, but Kemper's pickup truck was totaled.
The school bus received minor damage.
The students stayed on the bus until another bus came to take them to school. Other drivers in that area picked up the rest of the kids on the bus driver's route.
ISP says Kemper was issued a traffic citation for speed too fast for conditions.
