Arctic blast

A rare wind chill warning is in effect until 9:00 a.m.. Dangerously cold wind chills be a factor through Tuesday morning. An arctic blast will cut through the area bringing some of the coldest temps in 10-years. High temps will struggle to get above zero today.  Byron will have the 14 First Alert forecast.

Virtually every school system in the area is closed today due to the dangerous conditions.  We have a complete list, updated in real-time right here.

Icy roads

Residents in Pike County are under a travel advisory and asked to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Officials are also asking drivers to stay home in Perry County where there's a state of emergency.  We'll have crews out live this morning to check on road conditions, and we'll also check in live with law enforcement and highway officials around the area to see what awaits, if you do have to get out in this weather.

Millions affected

The so-called polar vortex is making it rough on millions in the eastern two-thirds of the country. Travel on the roads and in the air is difficult. We'll have the latest on Sunrise.

Be safe, and we'll see you on Sunrise.
