City officials preparing for winter storm expected to hit Evansville

Posted: Updated:

Evansville City officials are asking everyone to prepare for the cold temperatures and snowfall heading into the area.

The mayor's office held a press conference on Friday, where authorities gave tips on how to stay safe and warm.

City officials focused in on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, saying those are the days they expect the area will really get hit by the winter storm.

The Department of Transportation said crews are already pre-treating the roads.

All of the city's transportation is set to work their regular routes on schedule. If the weather changes that, officials will alert the public.

Interim EMA Director Cliff Weaver said the best thing people can do is stay inside and stay warm.

City officials are also asking that you keep your pets inside.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke said the city's website is updated with a list of phone numbers people may need during the storm.

He said they will be posted information on social media, such as road conditions and tips on how to stay safe.
