Be safe on the roads New Year's Eve

Posted: Updated:

Law enforcement wants to remind people to be safe on the roads New Year's Eve night. They will have extra deputies patrolling the streets, looking for drunk or distracted drivers.

Chief Deputy David Wedding says they've seen a slight increase in deadly accidents this year. He says he wants to emphasis careful driving on county roads especially, since that's where most wrecks happen.

"The majority of fatal crashes occur in rural areas, so that concerns sheriff's office employees. Part of our plan is to get officers out there to patrol our streets, look for impaired drivers, look for dangerous drivers," Wedding says.

The sheriff's office suggests you have a plan in place before you go out and party.

Just remember that Unity Taxi is partnering with Woods and Woods to provide free cab rides. You can call Unity at 421-9999 and you have to say Woods and Woods is picking up the tab, but keep in mind, they will only be able to take you home, not to another bar.
