If you're returning a Christmas gift, the Better Business Bureau says many big box stores have shortened the amount of time they give for returns and have made specific changes to their return policies.
Officials with the BBB say the return window at some stores has gone from 45 days to just 30 days and some as few as 14 days.
You may not receive a full cash refund. Officials say an in-store credit for the lowest sale price is usually the best a store will give you if you don't have a receipt.
For those who received gift cards, Tom Bozikis with the BBB, says," Sometimes those things have a time built into it and the longer you delay in using it, the less money is available for your purchase. Get ready to use it immediately and unfortunately sometimes businesses go out of business. So you want to make sure that you get the value out of that gift certificate or gift card."
Officials say electronics and appliances often have the most limited return policies, so check your receipts before heading back to the store.
