Tri-State Food Bank hopes holiday giving spirit continues

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Around the holidays people are so busy that donating food may not be a top priority.

But those at the Tri-State Food Bank and other food banks around the Evansville area are hoping a spirit of holiday giving will carry over as 2013 comes to an end.

Right now you can drop off food donations at Buehler's IGA and Price Less Foods locations through December 31st.  They include IGA stores on 41 N in Darmstadt, as well as Morgan Avenue, First Avenue and Main Street in Evansville.  Price Less Foods locations include Newburgh, Evansville's West Side and the Covert & Vann store.

Shoppers who don't want to give food, but still want to help may participate by buying at five dollar "Scan Away Hunger" card.  The store will then donate items with that money.  That is also going on through December 31st.

Items collected from this food drive and others are important to help meet the need in our community.

Last week, Tri-State Food Bank served close to 370 households during its Christmas giveaway, making sure those families had plenty of food on the table over the holiday.

The Tri-State Food Bank serves 33 counties and moves over seven million pounds of food a year.
