The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office arrested a man after they say he stabbed a female cab driver on Tuesday night. That cab, crashed into a home on Evansville's north side, rattling the family inside.

Deputies were dispatched to the 4000 block of Chapel Court around 11:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

"I love living here. It's people are really nice, but what happened last night, scared the heck out of me," Cecelia Jameson said.

Lisa Annette English told deputies that she and her female ride-along had just dropped off one male passenger, when a second male passenger robbed and stabbed the women.

English said she drove into a trailer to try to get the man to stop attacking her.

"Just sitting here, relaxing, watching TV and boom, boom," Cecelia said.

"All of a sudden, it's like we heard a horn and then like boom. It just shook the whole trailer," Cecelia's sister, Rebecca said.

Cecelia and her sister, Rebecca, went outside to see what happened. They found a taxi cab had driven into the house.

The sheriff's office says 24-year-old John Vernon Jackson was in the cab, stabbing the driver.

"She had every right to believe her life was in danger," Unity Taxi owner, Bill Kramer said.

The cab driver's mother tells 14 News that she is improving, but still in the hospital. The mother says she was riding along to help keep her daughter safe while on duty. She says she was badly hurt as well, but is now home from the hospital.

"She fought the attacker off and if not for that she might not be with us today," Kramer said.

As for Jackson, deputies say he got out of the taxi, ran down the street, broke in to an abandoned trailer.   He was eventually found and arrested.  Jackson is facing attempted murder, robbery, and resisting arrest charges.

It's a Christmas that Cecelia and Rebecca say they never saw coming and one they'll never forget.

"I never thought it would be us, Christmas eve, never," Cecelia said.

Jackson was booked on charges of attempted murder with a knife, robbery, residential entry and resisting law enforcement.

25-year-old Lewis Anthony Yates was found with the suspect. He was arrested on a felony warrant and for resisting arrest. Authorities say the investigation into his involvement is ongoing.
