Overnight fire in Evansville possibly arson

An arson investigation is underway after an Evansville building caught fire late Monday night.

It broke out at 6200 Maxwell Avenue just after 10 o'clock.

Arson Investigator Joe Mayer says neighbors called 911 after seeing smoke coming out from the building.

Fire crews say they did notice the smoke as well and entered the building through a back door.

That's where firefighters say they saw a contained fire.

Mayer tells 14 news damage to the building is minimal, but the furnace did sustain both smoke and heat damage.

No one was inside the building at the time of the fire.

No injuries have been reported.
