LEAVENWORTH COUNTY, KS (KCTV) -

A Leavenworth County man has been charged with the shooting death of his friend.

The Leavenworth County district attorney's office has charged 48-year-old Jefferey Sifford with second-degree murder.

He is accused of killing 58-year-old Richard E. Luse. Leavenworth County sheriff's deputies say they don't have a motive right now.

Deputies responded to a home in the 19000 block of Springdale Road shortly after midnight Saturday on a reported disturbance.

When they arrived, they found Sifford lying in the snow outside the home. Authorities detained him, and then checked a travel trailer located behind the main residence.

It was there where deputies found 58-year-old Richard E. Luse lying on the floor with apparent gunshot wounds. Luse was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Luse's friend and mother of his adult son did not want to be identified.

She said the two were friends, and that Luse had gone over to the address on Springdale Road to visit with Sifford.

She said, as far as she knows, there were no disputes between the two when Luse left his home Saturday night.

Deputies say a third man was also there and is considered a witness. He was also detained but on unrelated charges.
