EPD officer's quick action protects kids from driverless bus

Hundreds of kids from across the Tri-State were in downtown Evansville recently as part of a field trip to see the Nut Cracker at the Victory Theater.

As with all field trips to downtown venues, some Evansville Police officers were assigned to be a part of the event, helping with bus traffic and interacting with the kids.

EPD officials say Officer Kurt Chapman was monitoring the buses as they unloaded kids when he saw one of the out of town buses appear to be rolling towards a group of youngsters.

Despite a childhood nickname that would indicate he wasn't the fastest guy around, Chapman's quick work may have helped avert a tragedy.  Click here for the story via our Downtown Community website.
