Oversight plan approved for new downtown Evansville hotel

Evansville's downtown hotel project takes another step forward.

This morning, the Evansville Redevelopment Commission approved a plan to provide oversight on the payments for construction of the Hilton Doubletree Hotel.

Construction and finance representatives will have to approve payments on the project before they are made.

The payment will then have to be approved by the ERC and the City Controller before finally going to the project trustee, Old National Bank, which will make the payment.

City Attorney, Ted Ziemer, says the system of checks and balances should keep the city from paying more than it should for the hotel project.

The city plans to break ground on the new hotel on January 23.

The ERC is set to approve final design plans for in February, which include color schemes and other details.
