The EVSC is investigating a recent car accident that involved a school bus and another vehicle after initial reports turned out to be incorrect.

Marsha Jackson with the school corporation says their office of transportation got a call from a bus driver on December 12 saying the bus had blown a tire.

The district sent a tow truck to get the bus and another bus to pick up the kids.

The driver, who works for a contracted bus company, told them there were no injuries. But EVSC officials later learned police and an ambulance had been called to the scene and another car was involved.

Now, Jackson says they've sent crews to Illinois to the contractor's location to look at the bus, video, and maintenance records.

She says their buses are inspected once or twice a year, depending on age. We're told this bus in particular had just been inspected by state police.

"We definitely transport thousands of students every day, very safely. But yes, anytime there's an incident that occurs, we do want to fully investigate it and see how it could be prevented in the future," Jackson said.

She also says in the contract they have with this bus company, it indicates the contractor will take responsibility for any accidents.
