This year's St. John's Holiday Tournament in Newburgh was dedicated to former student Sam Featherstone.
Sam lost his battle with cancer last January.
The tournament is being held to raise money for the Sam Featherstone Scholarship at Reitz Memorial High School.
It will be given to a student who, like Sam, refused to let obstacles get in the way of succeeding.
Sam's former basketball coach told 14 News that Sam overcame whatever came his way.
"Even when there seemed no hope, Sam found a way to overcome that and think of others," said Coach Bob Dassel. "That was really his last focus on this Earth was how could he help other people not focusing on himself. That's kind of what made Sam special."
Sam started the 'Sam Strong' movement to raise money for pediatric cancer research.
So far, they have raised $200,000 for St. Judes.
