Police: OK. man arrested for sending sexually explicit pictures to Evansville teen

Posted: Updated:

An Oklahoma man was arrested after authorities say he sent sexually explicit pictures to a teenager in Evansville.

The Enid Police Department in Oklahoma said 23-year-old Thomas Chattam Jr. was arrested after Evansville police informed them of the allegations.

Authorities said Chattam admitted to sending the photos, as well as engaging in sexually explicit conversation with a police officer he believed to be the 17-year-old girl.

Police said the victim's mother noticed her daughter acting unusual and decided to look through her cell phone. She found sexual conversations and sexual photographs from Chattam.

We're told she reported it to Evansville police, who then notified the department in Enid.

The victim's mother told 14 News that her daughter was scared and manipulated by Chattam. She, along with Evansville police officers, ask parents to keep an eye out for warnings signs in these situations.

"Be aware of what your child is doing on their phone or on the internet. Monitor it, put some of those parental controls on it, and know what's going on in your child's life to help prevent them from being victimized by some of these sexual predators," said Captain Andy Chandler with the Evansville Police Department.

Chattam was arrested after being interviewed at his home. His charges include:

  • Soliciting Sexual Conduct or Communication with a Minor by use of Technology
  • Possession of Child Pornography
He is being held at the Garfield, OK County Detention Facility with a bond of $75,000.
