Peoria officials say they want LST 325 to relocate to central Illinois.
The (Peoria) Journal Star reports that community leaders are examining how to get the LST to Peoria once its 10-year contract with Evansville expires in 2015.
Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich says the community is researching how much it would cost to build a permanent dock for the boat, which attracts as many as 10,000 visitors a year.
In response to the news report, Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, released this statement: "We continue to have discussions with the LST leadership that are positive and candid. They are fully aware of our city's desire to keep the LST 325 in Evansville. The LST leadership has kept our administration informed of their discussions with other cities, and we understand they are doing their due diligence exploring all options. The leadership has asked to resume talks with Evansville following the LST 325 board meeting in Peoria in January.
The City of Evansville met with the LST 325 Board of Directors last July to begin renegotiate its contract with the city.
The World War II LST (landing ship tank) came to Evansville in 2005.
