UNION CO., KY (WFIE) -

Voting is now over in a special election in Western Kentucky.

The polls closed at 6 Tuesday night, and results show that Suzanne Miles won the election for the 7th District House seat.

The election was to fill the seat that was vacated when Representative John Arnold stepped down.

The district covers all of Union County, where for the first time, "challengers" were watching the voting process.

Challengers are recruited volunteers who assist with the states "get out the vote" effort. They help the state in understanding which voters may have already voted.

Challengers were in all three of the counties voting in the 7th House District on Tuesday. Each of them are residents of their respective counties, and they also under went training to make sure everything went smoothly.

"What they do is they sit at the polling places. We have three. Each one sits at a polling place and they just kind of look over the election process, make sure everything is going right, make sure they don't see anything funny," said Union County Clerk, Trey Peak.

Union, Henderson, and Daviess Counties say there wasn't any problems at the polls.
