Big Rivers receives Governor's Award for safety

Posted: Updated:

Big Rivers received a Governor's Award for Safety and Health at the headquarters in Henderson.

Officials say the headquarters site has logged more than a half-million hours without a loss-time accident or injury. That's about two and a half years.

Big Rivers CEO Mark Bailey says they have a strategic safety plan in place at all of it's locations to keep work flow efficient and safe for the employees.

"We operate a number of power plants, three of them. All of them have been very successful in that regard. In fact, in total we've received 33 Governor's Safety Awards," Bailey says. "Our current plants, Sebree is one of our leaders with about a million work hours I believe. Coleman a million and a quarter and Wilson's is a million and half work hours since their lost time accident occurred."

Officials say the entire company, more than 550 employees, completed all of 2012 without a lost-time incident.
