Several streets near Covert Avenue and South Alvord Boulevard were closed Wednesday morning as police responded to a man who barricaded himself inside his home.

EPD says the SWAT team was called in when they found out the man had a gun. Police later found the man took his own life when they entered the home.

EVSC officials said bus transportation for families living in the Dexter Elementary district was also affected by the situation.

Those officials said they have to act quick in situations like those.

"The buses had to find a way in. There was no way to get to those families living in this area. So we started immediately notifying families that we would not be able to pick up their children. There's about 20 to 25 children in this area," said Marsha Jackson with the EVSC.

The EVSC said, unfortunately, many of the phone numbers the school had to contact parents were out of date.

They urge parents to update their information so the school can contact them during situations like this one.
