Local medical research company looking for volunteers

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

A local medical research company is working on a potential vaccine for a fatal bacterial infection.

One of the vaccines scientists at Pedia Research in Owensboro is testing is Bexseero. They are working with it to see if it can prevent the contraction of the last strain of meningitis.

The same vaccine has already been approved in Europe and Australia for adults.

The goal of the study here is to help approve the drug for use in the United States in young adults and adolescents, but the company cannot do this without help from the community.

Researchers are looking for 10 to 18-year-olds willing to contribute to this study and to help the advancement of science. There are only five office visits and you will be compensated for your time.

"We're looking for that particular age group because the FDA needs statistics from that age group. They already have statistics from the adult age groups," said Mark Huesing, the study coordinator.
