14 News has learned two dogs were killed when a fire broke out at a mobile home in western Vanderburgh County early Tuesday morning.
Evansville-Vanderburgh Co. Central Dispatch says a call about a fire in the 8400 block of Rainier Drive came in around 2:30a.m.
Fire crews on the scene say there were no people inside the mobile home at the time of fire.
They tell 14 News flames were shooting through the roof, and that the fire threatened to spread to a second mobile home.
German Township Fire Chief, David Bretz says siding melted on two trailers to the west and to the north of the mobile home that burned down.
Crews were able to knock the fire down before a second mobile home was damaged, but a yard barn was burned.
Fire Chief Bretz says this was a particularly difficult fire to battle because the mobile home had been added onto.
"Appears it was a trailer at one time and they studded the outside walls around the trailer and added the walls that you see on the outside. Which left a space in the original trailer walls and the outside walls for the fire to get into, which made it particularly difficult," says Bretz.
Dispatch says multiple fire agencies were called to the scene including German Township, Scott Township, Perry Township, Marrs Township and McCutchanville and Wadesville.
There's no word yet on what may have caused the fire.
