Police identify man hurt in overnight Evansville shooting

The Evansville Police Department is investigating a shooting on the city's south side.

It happened just before 2:00 a.m. Monday in the area of South Morton and East Blackford Avenues.

Police say one man, 33-year-old Jovan Williams Woods was shot and taken to St. Mary's Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. 

According to police, Jovan was walking with his girlfriend at the time of the shooting. 

Police say they reached Jovan in the 1500 block of South Linwood Avenue.  From what Jovan told police, it appears he did not know the shooter or shooters.

Police say two vehicles parked off Morton Avenue were damaged by gunfire, as well as a home near Morton and Washington Avenue and God's Way Church on Washington.   

Right now, police do not have any suspects in custody.  They're asking the public to come forward with any information that may help them solve this crime.

    Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says a group met with a project consultant and some think Roberts Park might be the perfect location. There's plenty of space and with other sporting facilities near the site, could be used to attract out of town swimming tournaments.
