HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) - Known for its rugged trails, a Hopkins County lake area is getting a facelift.
Driving down Grapevine Road, you might miss it. Looking more like a service road than an entrance, Grapevine Lake and Nature Trail Park is due for some TLC.
The Madisonville City Council recently approved phase one of the Grapevine Cleanup Project including new signage, clearing of debris, increasing parking.
Lee Lingo of Leadership for Hopkins County, called Grapevine an under used resource which is an economic spark.
"People are coming here on Saturdays and Sundays," said Lingo. "They're driving past Land Between the Lakes to bike here. That's significant because when they come here, they buy gas here, they buy food here. When people come here from elsewhere they are spending money in our county and that's really important to us," Lingo said.
Lingo says significant progress will be made on the park area before the end of this year.
