With the holiday season upon us, it's time to think about the less fortunate and one way to help is Operation Christmas Child.
Americans are filling empty shoe boxes with school supplies, hygiene items, and toys which will be sent to nearly 10 million needy children.
There are four collection sites in Evansville.
The boxes eventually end up in 100 countries.
"To think that these children have never ever received a gift in their life, it just fills your heart to see them just in awe just looking at the package and seeing, thinking, 'who would want to send me this box, I don't even know these people and they love me,'" said Cheryl Bingemer, Network Coordinator, Operation Christmas Child.
Bingemer tells us the goal for Southwestern Indiana this year is 15,000 gifts.
