Holiday season arrives in Downtown Evansville

The holiday season has officially arrived in downtown Evansville. 

Around 4:45 Wednesday evening, Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke flipped the switch to light the Christmas tree in front of the Civic Center. 

The Signature Singers from Evansville's Signature School performed a holiday songs and Mayor Winnecke will offered a few remarks before the tree was lit.

The city said Florence Murphy donated a blue spruce, approximately 18-feet-tall for the holiday display.

Officials said that blue spruce went up in front of the Civic Center on Tuesday.

The Christmas tree will be on display in front of the building through the holiday season and will be removed sometime after January 1, 2014.
