Fmr. employee indicted on fraud charges after thousands found missing from school

Posted: Updated:

US Attorney General Joseph Hogsett has announced a grand jury indictment against Melissa Issacs, a former North Spencer County Schools employee.

Hogsett says Isaacs defrauded taxpayers of $63,000 in four years while she was the extra curricular treasurer at Heritage Hills High School and Middle School.

Superintendent Dan Scherry says the school system is audited every two years and that this year's audit alleges Isaacs failed to deposit over $45,000 in textbook rental fees, over $1,000 in athletics ticket sales and payments for letter jackets, over $1,500 in parking fees, and nearly $8,000 in school lunch payments over the past six years.

The audit also alleges Isaacs took several thousand dollars from school system funds without authorization.

Issacs could face up to 40 years in prison and financial penalties.
