Plans to move some existing war memorials to create a memorial walkway along Evansville's riverfront have been approved.

The Vanderburgh County Commissioners approved those plans at their Tuesday night meeting.

Now, the Veterans Council will move the World War I and World War II memorials and the Civil War bench from outside the Old Courthouse. The Revolutionary War Monument from outside the downtown post office will go as well.

They'll join the Vietnam Vets Memorial, Purple Heart Monument and the Korean War Memorial downtown along the riverfront.

County Commissioner Stephen Melcher says he hopes to have the project done by spring.
