Reitz students take trip to meet former president

Posted: Updated:

Three Reitz High School students decided to take their own field trip to meet a U.S. President. They say it was their history class that inspired them.

Seniors Hope Doninger, Haley Grubbs and Mary Ennis traveled to Plains, Georgia to meet Jimmy Carter. They met him at the Baptist church where Carter teaches Sunday school.

"It was just interesting to have a president, someone who's such a high power, sitting like a normal person, right a few rows by you. It was just a cool experience," Hope said.

"It was awesome and everyone was asking to see all the pictures and everything. It was just a really awesome experience to talk about it and be like, 'I met the President of the United States,'" Haley told 14 News.

The students say they're already planning a second trip to meet another president.
