HUNTINGBURG, IN (WFIE) -

The Southridge football team will play against Paoli in a regional playoff game on Friday night, but fans on both sides will be cheering a student battling leukemia.

Hunter Rohl is an 8th grade football player at Paoli and is fighting his second bout with the disease.

Southridge parent Scott Thompson visited Rohl in the hospital and said he and the football team were so inspired by Rohl's righting spirit, they wanted to do something.

On Friday, Thompson will be collecting money at the game to help the Rohl family pay medical expenses while the team will carry a 'Hunter Strong' banner onto the field.

"This is a special group of kids that goes beyond football," said Thompson. "We've got a term that's kind of been coined and keeps getting bigger and bigger here of, 'We believe.' it's not necessarily just about football. It's we believe in our community, our coaches, our players."

Thompson said collection will go on throughout the week.

If you want to donate, you can send money to P.O. Box 65, Huntingburg, IN 47542 (checks must be made out to either Molly Rohl or Steve Rohl).
