WWII veterans served breakfast on LST 325

Posted: Updated:

A tradition continued Monday morning, as veterans boarded LST 325 for breakfast.

Inside the part of the ship that used to be the tank deck, many veterans filled up tables for a hearty breakfast of sausage and eggs, biscuits and gravy.

Officials say the food was prepared in the same galley where troops ate before they disembarked for the D-Day Invasion back in 1944.

Many of the veterans come in from out of state for the breakfast. They say this is the one time a year they get to see some of their friends.

"I feel honored to be a part of it. It's such a good feeling to have so many that come down here and get a free breakfast. We get to thank them for their service and they get to see the ship," Bob Jornlin said. Jornlin has been the captain of the LST since 2000.

Many businesses around the Tri-State will also be offering deals and discounts for retired military and current active duty men and women to thank them for their service.
