Honoring those who serve

Across the nation on Veterans Day today, Americans are honoring the sacrifices and service of the armed forces. President Barack Obama plans to attend a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. In his proclamation, Obama says the country's obligations to those who have served "endure long after the battle ends."

Local observances

There are many local events to honor veterans on their special day.  There are special ceremonies at cemeteries, parades, and area restaurants will also thank vets for their service to our country.  We'll have complete coverage on Sunrise.

Warm, cold and snow flakes

Veterans Day will be warmer with highs around 60 and most of the day will be dry.  A strong cold front moves through early Tuesday bringing scattered rain and snow showers, although snow accumulation is not expected.  Much colder air for Tuesday and Wednesday as highs struggle to reach 40 degrees with lows in the lower 20s. Byron has the 14 First Alert forecast.

Philippines devastation

Philippine Secretary to the Cabinet Rene Almendras says simply that, "in some cases the devastation has been total" from one of the worst typhoons in the country's history. There's little in the way of utilities, food water or fuel and thousands are feared dead in the central Philippines.

Cabinet Finalist

We'll draw the name of another finalist to be eligible for $10,000 worth of Ellington Fine Cabinetry.

So enjoy your Monday, and thank a Vet.  We'll see you on Sunrise.
