14 News learned that the mayor of Earlington, KY., Michael W. Seiber, laid off the police chief, which leaves the town without a police force.
The now former police chief, Chris Proctor, got a letter in the mail from the mayor that reads, "Dear Chief Proctor, Considering the current financial status and cash flow problem of the City, I regret to inform you that I have to reorganize the City government. Your position as Chief of Police will be laid off effective 7 a.m. today, November 8, 2013."
In the City of Earlington, the police department is made up only the police chief.
14 News talked to Mayor Seiber and would not confirm or deny the layoff, but said he is "in the process of reorganizing the City government."
On Thursday, he told 14 News that there would be five city employees losing their jobs.
There is no word yet on what those five positions are, or whether the layoffs are temporary or permanent.
