29th Annual Scouting for Food Campaign underway

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Scouts were out today placing bags at the doors in Cape Girardeau for their 29th annual Scouting For Food Campaign.

Organizers say the drive provides significant food donations during the holiday season to provide to community food banks helping those in need.

Scouts will come back next Saturday November 16 to pick up any non-perishable food items left at resident doors.

This year more than 30,000 scouts are out in the Greater St. Louis area that includes 27 counties in eastern Missouri and 10 counties in southern Illinois.

Scouting for food collects around two million food items each year and has collected 47 million items over the last 28 years.

    Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says a group met with a project consultant and some think Roberts Park might be the perfect location. There's plenty of space and with other sporting facilities near the site, could be used to attract out of town swimming tournaments.
