LOUISVILLE, KY. (WAVE) - Injured University of Louisville guard, Kevin Ware made an emotional return to action in the Cards' final exhibition game against the University of Pikeville Wednesday night at the KFC Yum! Center.

Ware, who had gruesomely broken his leg in the UofL's Regional Final game against Duke on March 31st, returned to game action with 13 minutes left in the second half to a standing ovation. "I was a little nervous, actually, I didn't expect to get in so late in the game. Me and coach didn't really talk about anything, but when he called my number, I was just ready to get in. I've been waiting for this moment for like 220 days now, so I'm happy," said Ware.

Not only did Ware get some playing time, he knocked down his first shot, a three pointer, five minutes after checking into the game. "Well I think it's great, and I think it's kind of storybook when you take your first shot and you don't touch iron, I think it's great. I wanted to get him some minutes just to get over the jitters of being back, in case we use him against Charleston," said head coach, Rick Pitino. Ware was surprised that he was able to knock down his first shot. "I, honestly, thought I would air ball my first shot, but when it went in, everything went back to normal, and just went back to playing basketball," said Ware.

The Cards open up regular season play on Saturday, November 9th at home against College of Charleston.
