Construction has begun on an unused wing at Webster County High School.
WEBSTER CO., KY (WFIE) -
Middle school students in Webster County will be attending a more traditional school next year.
Construction has begun on an unused wing at Webster County High School where it will house the middle school.
The elementary schools serve kindergarten through eighth grade. The school board recently decided though that it's time that the nearly 320 seventh and eighth graders get a school of their own.
"The children are spread out all over the county right now. As seventh and eight graders, we can get them here under one roof and offer them more opportunities that they don't presently have in the buildings that they're in now," said Geoff Bailey, a middle school principal.
There's been some concern regarding mixing middle school students with the high school students, but the school says they will do everything they can to make the transition as smooth as possible.
The middle school will be in use next school year.
