Clerk, suspect shoot each other in would-be robbery

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A suspected robber is dead and a clerk is in the hospital, following an attempted robbery Saturday night in west Toledo.

It happened around 9 p.m. Saturday at the Stop and Go, 3131 W. Sylvania Avenue, just east of Secor Road.

Toledo Police say a male suspect, identified as 28-year-old Christopher Shockley, tried to rob a female clerk, 29-year-old December Long, at gunpoint, but Long was armed as well.

Police say both Shockley and Long fired shots, hitting and wounding one another.

Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Shockley was later pronounced dead.

Long was taken into surgery with serious injuries. An update on her condition has not yet been released.

Police are looking at surveillance video as the investigation into the would-be robbery continues.
