List of important Owensboro projects sent to Frankfort

Posted: Updated:

A wish list has been sent to Frankfort, filled with projects backed by the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation and the Chamber of Commerce.

Officials say that final list of projects will move the Owensboro community forward. The items range from transportation projects like upgrades to the future I-65 corridor to capital projects like phase two of OCTC Advance Technical Center.

"Education is very important, especially technical education these days. What we're proposing there will do nothing more than to accelerate our ability to train our young people in this community," Owensboro Mayor Ron Payne said.

Local leaders, the Chamber of Commerce, and EDC will make sure the communities voice is heard in Frankfort by creating an advocacy group. The Greater Owensboro Advocates for Legislation will be created to help convey the communities voice to state legislators on a weekly basis.

"Our legislators will be hearing from not just from economic development personal or chamber personal or elected officials, they are hearing from the citizen that these priorities are important to them, too," said Madison Silvert with the Greater Owensboro Economic Development.

There will be two training sessions in December for people wanting to join the advocacy group. Members have to be graduates of Leadership Owensboro or Emerge Owensboro to join.
