Traveling city hall discusses IU Medical Center

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke is hosted a traveling city hall meeting to discuss plans for the future IU Medical Center Campus.

The Martin Group presented its site called The Promenade on Wednesday morning. The Promenade is a 225 acre site bordered by Interstate 164, Burkhardt Road, Oak Grove Road and Columbia Street.

The actual med school campus will be a 69 acre portion of the total project. The proposed site for the school sits on the other side of Cross Point Boulevard next to I-69.

A new luxury apartment complex called The Havens is also planned for the area. The 16-building complex will have 224 units starting at $920 a month. Construction is expected to begin early next year and units will become available in the summer.

Officials say whether or not the med school chooses The Promenade, the area is going to be developed.

"The location which is a main asset, the gateway into Evansville. It sets an image for Evansville when people come in that are from out of town that they see what's going on in Evansville and we have things such as medical schools. The activity, that's part of the medical industry that's right here. They'll see that the first thing they come into town," said Steve Martin with The Martin Group.

The traveling city hall lasts until 7:00 Wednesday evening.
