Tri-Staters scrambling for cheap gas

Gas prices in one Tri-State community are the lowest they've been in a long time. Those low prices have Tri-Staters scrambling to fill up.

According to, prices at the pump have fallen 11 cents in the past week, nationwide.

The sign at Casey's on Green Street in Henderson says it's $2.76 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas. Down the street at Chuckles, it's $2.83 a gallon.

Believe it or not, gas prices are low due to a general slowdown in the economy and not a lot of demand for oil. It was madhouse earlier on Tuesday as people were trying to fill up as quick as they could.

According to, the national average for gas is about $3.29 a gallon.

"I can't believe it, we heard at school. We went to see my son at school today and we heard somebody say it was like $2.83, $2.85. We decided we'd come and fill up while we could because we just know it won't be here for long," said Billy Jo Davies in Henderson.

In Evansville, we found the lowest price to be at Marina Pointe on Waterworks Road at $3.03 a gallon.
