HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

Friends, family, and supporters gathered outside the old Madisonville Courthouse on Tuesday to remember a young teenager who took her own life.

14-year-old Dorothy Boone died one year ago.

After her death, officials realized the Madisonville North freshman had been bullied by other kids. Family and friends now use Dorothy's memory to teach other people about the dangers of bullying.

"It's stand up, speak out, stop bullying. It's what we got on here, but stop teasing, everything.  No child deserves to be teased or bullied in any way shape, fashion, or form," said Dorothy's father, Carl Boone.

Last year, Dorothy's family and friends started a Christmas give back program which impacted close to 50 kids, and they plan to do the same this year, only bigger.
