Bremen parents encouraged to be on alert

MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE) -

Parents in the Bremen area are encouraged to be on the look out and keep an eye on their kids after an incident Thursday night where a young girl saw a man running towards her out of the shadows.

Officials say the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 5000 block of State Route 81.

They say a young girl was riding her bike in her driveway when she heard a man running towards her.

"She then began to speed away on her bicycle. She said the individual was running her direction at this point again. We don't know if the individual was attempting to make contact with her or not, but certainly we assume that with him running out from the shadows and it being about dark that this was the case," Muhlenberg County Sheriff Curtis McGehee said.

All she could make out was that he was wearing a black beanie and was about six feet tall.

The incident happened in the same area where Bremen Elementary School is located. Due the incident, the school had increased law enforcement presence on Friday as well as no scheduled recess periods.

One parent had this to say after she learned of the incident.

"Definitely just makes you want to keep them inside and not let them out," a concerned parent told 14 News.

With Halloween coming up and the days getting darker quicker, if you do see anything suspicious you are asked to call the Muhlenberg Sheriff's Office.
