LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Louisville Metro Police have arrested a woman on a variety of charges after answering a call about a burglary in progress.

Just after 5 a.m. October 18, officers were called to the 10600 block of Meeting Street on a report of someone stealing property from a residence. Once in the area, police saw a vehicle matching the description given and pulled it over. Police said the vehicle contained items matching the ones witnesses reported being taken.

Officers found the license plate on the vehicle had been altered to change the numbers and letters. They also said there was a strong odor of alcohol.

The arrest report says the driver, Shannon Fortwengler, 44, of Louisville, had "red/bloodshot glassy eyes and slurred speech." Fortwengler's actions, said police, placed herself and a juvenile in the car with her at risk.

Fortwengler was arrested on charges of theft by unlawful taking over $500, criminal possession of a forged instrument, alcohol intoxication and endangering the welfare of a minor. She will be arraigned on October 19.
