A man is sentenced to prison after being found guilty of murder.

Wednesday morning in Vanderburgh Superior Court, Racxon Cruze McDowell was sentenced to 65 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections.

In September, McDowell was found guilty of killing his girlfriend, 24-year-old Rachel Lomax, at her apartment on Mt. Vernon Avenue in June 2012.

Lomax was found with 21 separate injuries from a beating she took from McDowell the night of her death. Emergency personnel spent a half hour trying to revive Lomax. McDowell originally told investigators someone else had beaten Lomax up before confessing to the murder court.

Judge Robert J. Pigman heard arguments from both sides before sentencing McDowell to the maximum length allowed on a murder conviction.
