(KOCO/CNN) – A veteran is taking to the streets of Oklahoma City in his search for a kidney donor.
Robert Dean, of Arcadia, OK, said he's tried everything.
On Sunday, his 84th birthday, the former Air Force pilot took to a street corner to ask strangers for the gift of life.
His kidneys are failing. Friends and family offered theirs, but no one was a match.
While waiting to find a donor, he has dialysis three times a week.
Dean is using his last bit of strength for his last hope, the kindness of strangers.
Most cars pass him by, but Dean said all he needs is the one with the right person inside to stop.
"I know that Oklahomans are very generous people and I thought that if somebody saw me out here and saw that I needed a kidney maybe somebody would want to give me one," he said.
So far, two strangers who saw his sign have called offering to donate.
Neither was a match.
Anyone interesting in donating can contact Dean at (405) 255-3587.
