Evansville man killed in early morning accident

Posted: Updated:

An Evansville man was killed at the scene of an early Sunday morning accident.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office says 32-year-old Sean Hilt died in that accident. It happened around 3:30 a.m., about one mile north of the Petersburg Road and E. Boonville/New Harmony Road intersection.

The sheriff's office says the vehicle was heading northbound on Petersburg Road at a high rate of speed, when Hilt ran off a curve just south of Fishers Road. They say the vehicle ramped off a wooden guardrail, went airborne, hit some trees and then landed in a ditch with several feet of water.

The coroner says Hilt was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say he suffered a head injury, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Deputies says its uncertain at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved. The investigation is ongoing.
