Posted: Updated:

Evansville Police are searching for a suspect they believe tried to rob a local cab driver at gunpoint.

Police say they got a call from a River City Yellow Cab driver around 10:00 on Saturday night. The caller told officers that a customer tried to rob him.

According to police, the cab driver told them he picked up a man on Audubon and was driving to the customer's desired location on S. Linwood Ave. The man told the cab driver to stop at a nearby intersection before arriving to the location.

The driver stopped and that's when the man got out of the car, went around to the driver's side, pointed a revolver in the window, and told the driver to give him money.

The cab driver told police he was able flee the area by putting the car in reverse and quickly drive away.

Police say they have a description of the man and they believe his name is James. They have been unable to locate him.

Police are asking anyone with any information about the crime to call the Evansville Police Department.
