Despite the rain in Evansville on Saturday morning, some high school students were out picking up trash part of Operation Hot Mess.
The two hour event is a competition between EVSC High Schools to see which school has the most number of students participating.
It's a part of Mayor Lloyd Winnecke's Clean Evansville initiative to help get students involved in cleaning their community.
"Part of it is this looks really good for colleges and for our education having volunteer work and its good to have volunteer work because you do look good with it and it does help our community and it doesn't hurt anybody," said North High School Senior, Tristan Mills. "What are we going to do on this kind of a Saturday anyways? Not play outside."
The Academy of Innovative Studies and F.J. Reitz High School were the winners of the 2013 Operation Hot Mess.
